Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that the government refuses to repay the debt taken from Russia on Eurobonds if Moscow does not agree to its restructuring. He stated this in an interview with the German newspaper Handelsblatt.
“We will announce a moratorium on debt repayment and will not service the loan,” he said. He stressed that Ukraine "cannot treat Russia differently than other international creditors." "We offer Russia the same conditions. The deadline for reaching an agreement is October 29," the prime minister said.
Earlier, Ukraine offered Russia to forgive part of the debt, as private creditors did, but Russia has already refused Ukraine several times to restructure $ 3 billion of debt and demands to return all the money on time, because otherwise a precedent will be created when the state, without declaring a default, refuses to pay his debts.
On September 7, Moscow already announced that it “does not intend to join the decision of the club of creditors to write off part of Kyiv's debt” and is waiting for its full repayment on time - in December.
