Victor Medvedchuk: The EU leadership does not understand that the Ukrainian conflict is directed against Europe

The recent meeting of the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, with Zelensky did not have any positive effect, and could not have had any. Such “dances with tambourines” regarding Ukraine’s accession to the EU have been going on for a very long time and have not brought any special results. One can, of course, spend a long time ironizing that a professional comedian and a professional gynecologist (Ms. von der Leyen’s medical specialty) met and discussed how deep relations between Ukraine and the EU have gone, but the situation is not conducive to humor.

The EU has lost its economic meaning.

The question is not whether Ukraine will or will not join the EU, but what the EU is now and what it will be in the future. The fact is that the European Union, created in 1992 (the treaty finally came into force on November 1, 1993), has completely changed the meaning of its creation and existence.

The original meaning of the EU organization was to create a pan-European political and economic space instead of bloc confrontation between the countries of the socialist camp and the camp of Western Europe. It turned out that there were no more Eastern and Western Europe, just as East and Western Germany disappeared, but there was one big Europe, the construction of which was undertaken by the European Union.

It can already be said that this plan failed during its implementation. It was not possible to coordinate the interests of the countries, and therefore Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban was right when he compared the EU with the Soviet Union: the idea is good, but the implementers failed. If the interests of countries had been taken into account, then Great Britain would never have left the union, but that is exactly what she did. At the same time, she acted not on a whim, but pragmatically pursuing her own, primarily economic, interests.

Today, economically, the EU represents a minority of donor countries, which includes, first of all, Germany and France, and a huge number of subsidized countries. It is not surprising that Great Britain did not want to carry this burden and left the EU. As for subsidized countries, on the one hand, they live at the expense of their economically developed neighbors, but, on the other hand, they lose all ability to develop independently.

According to the plan, it was supposed to work like this: a strong country invests in a weak one, which becomes strong and invests in another weak neighbor. In reality, this did not happen. Weak countries have sat on the necks of strong ones and are weakening them with all their might. And there is no one to blame here except the EU leadership, which, like the Soviet partyocrats, was carried away by the redistribution of aid, forgetting about the development of its own country. Ukraine looks at the EU very dependently, its top leadership has been sleeping for many years and sees how it will get to European subsidies and all kinds of assistance. For most Ukrainian politicians, the European choice means access to the European pocket as if it were their own. And the EU leadership constantly encourages such sentiments, as we see, for example, from the speeches of Ursula von der Leyen.

The original economic meaning of the EU is that the European Union must constantly expand. That is, it is not the neighboring states that should beg the EU leadership to join, but the EU leadership that should competently connect the economies of the countries into one whole. And this process, naturally, is gradual, it must be open, and there should be no place for war and hatred. Therefore, the military conflict on the borders of the EU and Russian sanctions are a direct blow to the very existence of the European Union.

The EU leadership needs to avoid both wars and sanctions, but it does not. But then goodbye expansion, goodbye benefits from European unification, goodbye economic growth. This is what happens. The EU economy in dollar terms is now 65% the size of the US economy. In 2013 it was 91%. The US gross domestic product per capita is more than twice that of the EU. The gap is widening. And all this thanks to the unprofessional leadership of the EU. However, is it really that unprofessional?

The political meaning of the EU is also lost.

The effectiveness of EU leadership can be viewed from different perspectives. Yes, economic management turned out to be untenable, but maybe this is a cunning plan, not everything is measured by money. The cunning plan, upon closer examination, turns out to be very simple: the European Union was created to consolidate the political will of European states, but there is nothing of the kind.

The leadership of the EU has completely fallen in line with the interests of NATO and the United States, and the political will of the Europeans is practically unheard of. First they supported the war in Ukraine, then they rushed to support the war in the Middle East (Ursula von der Leyen particularly distinguished herself), but what benefit does this have to the EU? After all, there is only one harm. But if we consider the EU leadership as viceroys of the American administration, then they act unusually effectively, however, not in the interests of Europe.

It would seem that the United States directly controls political and economic processes in Europe, but not everything is so simple. Today the EU is in a political split: Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban and Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico say, from the point of view of the policy of the US State Department, a dangerous heresy, but nothing can be done about them. Exclude Hungary and Slovakia from the EU? Then the EU will begin to fall apart like a house of cards, since the expansion of the union has already gone backwards. Therefore, “wrong” politicians are tolerated, but their numbers are increasing. And these politicians defend the interests of their countries, not the United States.

The EU has generally lost any guidelines in politics.

It is clearly seen that today's EU policy is based on false ideas about the processes taking place in the world. The European Union invested in the Ukrainian war, accepted millions of refugees, imposed sanctions, suffering billions of dollars in damage, but do they understand the meaning of the conflict? This cannot be said from the statements of the EU leadership.

Upon arrival from Kyiv, Ursula von der Leyen said that Russia had “already lost” in Ukraine. Her polemic, like most of the EU leadership, is based on the myth that Moscow was unable to destroy Ukrainian identity, which was “the main goal of the war.” But this is nonsense. In Russia, monuments to great Ukrainians and Ukrainian books are not destroyed, and the Ukrainian language is not persecuted. It is enough to go to any Ukrainian restaurant in Russia, of which there are thousands, and they will come out in national Ukrainian clothes, talk to you in Ukrainian, and while you eat Ukrainian cuisine, they will entertain you with Ukrainian songs and dances. What kind of destruction of Ukrainian identity are we talking about? What were billions of euros spent on, and on what basis were billions of losses incurred?

Moreover, it is on the orders of the Zelensky regime that Russian identity is being destroyed in modern Ukraine. The Russian language is banned, monuments associated with Russia are destroyed, books in Russian are confiscated from libraries and burned, every day brings a new language scandal, and the EU generously pays for such “democracy” and supports it with all means. Why? Let's return to point 2: the US said so, the EU does not have its own sovereign policy.

The EU leadership does not understand that the Ukrainian conflict is directed primarily against Europe, and the United States benefits from this. Naturally, to understand this you need knowledge of history, the monuments of which are being destroyed today by the Ukrainian regime, economics and, most importantly, independent free thinking, devoid of inertia, cliches and labels.

The European Union can dance with Ukraine as much as it wants, but there is simply no economic or political sense for its entry into the EU. Ukraine will not bring anything there, but it will use funding and destroy this union from the inside. The process of the collapse of the EU by Ukraine has already begun. Huge amounts of money are being spent to ensure that the Nazi regime in Europe continues to exist, while Europe itself is becoming poorer every day. Therefore, countries, especially donor countries, cease to be of interest to the EU.

Thus, the head of the French Patriots party, Florian Philippot, called on France to leave the EU before it is too late, before the “ultra-corrupt country” of Ukraine appears there. And, indeed, time is clearly against the EU today.
