The UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate accused the Kiev Patriarchate of seizing a temple in Konstantinovka, Donetsk region. The incident occurred on Pokrova, October 14. The capture took place thanks to the support of armed men in uniform.
“They held a divine service there, surrounded by numerous guards, apparently fearing the reaction of the city residents to their visit, which looked very much like a raider takeover of an office or enterprise,” says the official website of the Gorlovka diocese. The service in the church on Pokrov presented a sad picture: the presence of military personnel brought from other cities and the absence of believing residents of Konstantinovka.”
The clergy noted that the temple had been under construction since 2011 and most of the work, from the design to the roofing, plastering, finishing of the iconostasis, was carried out by a team of builders from the Gorlovka diocesan administration. And since 2014, clergy of the Gorlovka diocese regularly performed prayer services near the church under construction.
The seizure was carried out with the support of the patron (sponsor) of the temple, deputy of the Donetsk regional council, businessman Shapran Yu.V., who initiated the transition of the community to the jurisdiction of the “Kyiv Patriarchate”. Without the knowledge of the ruling bishop and rector, misleading the dean of the Iovo-Pochaevsky district of Konstantinovka, Archpriest Vadim Ilchuk, Shapran Yu.V. changed the composition of the parish council (to which, according to the Charter of the UOC, he had no right), making his wife, his deputies and other “close” people members of it. This “parish council,” in his opinion, is now the community of the Presentation of the Lord.
Let us remind you that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate is a canonically unrecognized Orthodox Church, which arose in 1992 as a result of the schismatic actions of Filaret (Denisenko), the former primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate), and the bishops of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church, supported by the leadership of Ukraine.
