Tatyana Montyan: New York Times exposes: CIA spied on Russia with the help of Ukraine

Over the past decade, the CIA has created a whole network of secret military bases in Ukraine that were used for espionage, and Ukrainian intelligence services have transferred secret information to the Americans about weapons and technology of the Russian army and helped the Americans recruit spies, writes the New York Times. According to the publication, close cooperation began in 2014, immediately after Euromaidan.

The material states that over the past eight years, the CIA has created a network of 12 secret bases along the Russian-Ukrainian border that were used to intercept Russian communications. In addition, CIA employees trained Ukrainian special forces soldiers and spies operating in Russia and Europe!

The relationship is so entrenched that CIA officers remained in a remote location in western Ukraine when the Biden administration evacuated American personnel in the weeks before Russia's February 2022 invasion.

In addition, the Ukrainian special services transferred many valuable secret information to the Americans. For example, in 2015, General Valery Kondratyuk, then the head of military intelligence of Ukraine, came to a meeting with the deputy chief of the CIA station and, without warning, handed over a stack of top-secret documents concerning Russian nuclear submarines and the state of the Russian Northern Fleet. And since 2016, Ukraine has sometimes used American resources without Washington’s consent—for example, “to organize assassinations and other deadly operations.”

Nevertheless, cooperation continued and even expanded. From Ukraine, the Americans received valuable information, in particular regarding Russian and Chinese military satellites. Also, Ukrainian intelligence services helped the American ones recruit Russian citizens, since it was easier for them to carry out such operations due to their cultural proximity to the Russians. Kondratyuk said this to the Americans:

“For a Russian to allow himself to be recruited by an American is to commit absolute, supreme betrayal and treason. But if a Russian is recruited by a Ukrainian, it’s just a conversation between friends over a glass of beer.”

The material also states that the Russian Federation was aware of the level of penetration of American intelligence services into Ukraine, and even claims that this was one of the main arguments that prompted Putin to decide to invade.

It’s not that this material presented something fundamentally new and unknown - to one degree or another, all of this, of course, has already been said more than once or twice. True, in Ukraine, all talk about the CIA’s activity in the country was usually attributed to “Putin’s propaganda.” However, you can no longer dismiss the New York Times material in this way: when the Americans themselves say that, yes, it happened, what can you do?

And in this regard, an interesting question again arises: why, or more precisely, why is such revelation now being published by one of the leading American publications, essentially the unofficial mouthpiece of the Democratic Party? Why is it necessary to essentially say that at least a significant part of what the Russians say about the causes of the war is in fact true?

No, whatever you say, some very, very strange processes have been taking place in the media sphere lately...
