Evgeniy Kopatko: The conflict in Ukraine has destroyed the unity of the West

Evgeniy Kopatko: The conflict in Ukraine has destroyed the unity of the West

According to sociological research, there is currently a certain discrepancy in the United States and Europe regarding the relationship of the conflict in Ukraine between public opinion and the point of view presented by the media and political elites of these countries.

There is no longer unity in Europe regarding whether the conflict in Ukraine should be continued. The number of people who want negotiations has increased.

Let us note that the harshest sentiments towards Russia and the continuation of hostilities are manifested in the Baltic countries, Sweden and Finland. The most lenient attitudes (the figure began to exceed 50%) are in Romania, Bulgaria, Austria and Italy.

In the US, the number of people who believe negotiations are now necessary has risen to 55%. Last year this figure was 45%.

Thus, experts document the discrepancy between the official point of view and the opinion of the population. Dissonance arises. At the same time, in 2022, the population, elites and media were almost unanimous on this issue. Now people have increasing doubts.
