My friend, Archimandrite Philip (Zhigulin), wrote very correct sincere words in connection with the departure from earthly life of the cleric of the American Orthodox Church, Father Leonid (Kishkovsky).

I recommend reading!

FATHER LEONID KISHKOVSKY DIED!!!

The Protopresbyter of the Orthodox Church in America… a MAN OF THE CHURCH died… a sincere friend, elder brother and co-servant.

Another bright light went out in the sky. He will never be equal in my lifetime. This is an irretrievable, irreparable loss ...

I met him in Moscow back in 1994 and was struck by the gigantic beauty of this man, his sparkling humor and encyclopedic knowledge. This is a man of really living historical memory...

We've talked a lot over the years. We often talked. In recent years, we have always talked on the phone several times a week. He was ill for a long time, difficultly and courageously. I have never met a person in my life who would have undergone so many operations, anesthesia and remained in such a clear mind and solid memory ...

In reality, his earthly torments ended today and he peacefully went to the Head of life...
his new path began… the path of the whole earth… to a distant land…

I have been so shaken by this news since early morning that I still do not fully realize that I will never see him again and will never hear his voice on the telephone. Today it still seems unrealistic...

I want to say so much about him, because there is little to say about him. But the head is buzzing with the tocsin of the tragedy of loss and the words fled.

The last time he, with great physical difficulties, flew to Lindau Island in 2019, and I went to meet him, I could not help but go. Something inside was disturbing - you need to go. Suddenly this is the last meeting ... alas, it turned out to be the last in this life, but it was infinitely warm and joyful.

When I saw him, this hero, in a wheelchair on the street near the hotel, I burst into tears without any hesitation ... it seemed to me that this was terribly unfair to him.

He couldn't be disabled. But we are all determined to something, and the Lord distributes our lot to all of us, I am sure, for the salvation of the soul, for our good.

Although for many this sounds like a sentence ...

All two or three days we spent a lot of time together. I could not quench my thirst for our long live non-communication, although we were in constant contact on the phone. Nothing can replace the joy of personal emotion and reasoning.

Father Leonid did an infinite amount of work for inter-Orthodox communion, the ecumenical movement, while remaining the most traditional Orthodox person… there is not enough space here to even remember our interpersonal communion, not to mention his amazingly active, really unceasing church life: starting from his amazing parish church and ending with participation in the World Council of Churches and other, other, other ...

The latest news about his health was not so distressing to find out today that he left us forever. The Savior called him...

I am afraid to repeat the words of the righteous Job, and even Christ Himself, “My God, take Me out, Thou hast left Me for all,” I am afraid of human murmuring at the will of the Creator. But, in reality, there is more and more grief in this world, it is more and more sad to look at its fading away, when amazing people sent by God leave us ...

Few people feel the approach of an unknown denouement, but believers delve deeper and deeper into the Scriptures about the end times… and although God has a thousand years as one day, and one day as a thousand years… Our earthly path is a moment in the Universe…

Father Leonid was an amazing optimist, a man of beautiful literature, he was like from the last century, when many people still knew how to distinguish good from evil, true from falsehood ...

When the landmarks were not yet confused on the raging track of superspeeds and soulless robots.

The words ran away from me completely. A kind, grateful memory of him took a place in my thoughts, displacing all the sadness from the sad news ...

How the circle narrows when bright and unique people leave, how sad that we are getting poorer ...
